Sorry to make ANOTHER car thread.. but my co-worker is selling his 91 Grand Marquispic. He is asking 1,000 for it, but i believe i can get him to 700-800 for it. The car is in pretty good shape, with 130K miles. I have rode in it several times and it is VERY smooth, compared to my 91 jetta that has no shocks what so ever. I was orginally looking at a 95 Volvo, but that will take me a signicant amount of time to save up for. According to cars.com, the value for this car in average shape is 3,025. Would you guys rock at big boat like a grand marquis???

I concur, although I suppose its possible he just wants to get rid of it.

Theres nothing wrong with the car.. he is broke and just bought a 95 accord and needs to pay his parents back. The car definlty is a gas hog, with its v8 5.0 , but my jetta has been geting crappy mileage lately so it would almost equal out. The car has the most comfortable seats... blue vellvet :).. hes going to come over in a little bit, ill probaly take it around the block for a test drive.

If there's nothing wrong with it, then go for it. The Ford 302 (5.0) is practically bulletproof.

130K miles would be too much for me. $1,000.00 is all he can really ask if it needs any work. You were looking at a '95 Volvo? Look at a '95 Town Car instead. It would cost a few bucks more than a '95 Grand Marquis, but would be so worth it. The Grand Marquis would be just as solid, and cheaper to keep due to fewer bells and whistles, but just drive both, you'll see what I mean. The '91 Grand Marquis will be a heart breaker. The first time it needs serious work, you'll be wondering whether you should bother putting the money into it. Put that $1,000.00 toward a newer Town Car!

A guy I worked with had a Volvo and wasn't too thrilled with the reliability or cost of repairs. Don't ask me what model, year or miles on it, cause I don't know. It was a fair sized one that was several years old. He wanted a Volvo for quite a while, but after he got it... ugh. Talk to your mechanic before you make a move. He'll give you the lowdown on which ones hold up, and how much it costs to keep 'em going.

I can understand what you are saying.. thats why i would rather try and get if for like 700.... as far as major works goes, the only thing that i knew he replaced was the altenator and the power steering i believe. The car rides really nice... but yes i am worried about major problems. My jetta will need some work to pass inspection this month though most likely and if i could get this car to last me through the summer and maybe fall i would be happy for the price.

If you can get it for 700-800, I would jump on it.

Even if there is a major deal like the engine or transmission going out, the car still has a salvage / parting out value of about 400-500, so you cant get hurt too badly.

Chances are the car has a good 30-50k miles left on it, with some minor repairs and upkeep. Not even a bad looking car, might even see if the guy would take a down payment and finance the rest for you, interest free.

If the car does die, you can buy a complete used 5.0 engine for like $400. 5.0 parts are so cheap...

Yeah thats what i figured.. i might just give him 500 down and pay the rest off over time... i asked if he accepted staples coupons and he said no. :( ( We both work @ Staples) ... i am sure he would be willing to work something out of the next couple of weeks.. just enough time to sell my jetta for about 1K :)

If there are no major problems, I'd buy it in a heartbeat for $700-800.
This is the kind of car I want to see my grandson driving next month.

Indeed they are... the funny thing is that my friend who owns the car right now is like 6' 7'' and looks like a GIANT while driving this car. If i were to get it, I would probaly have to get some phonebooks to reach the steering wheel. *Goes into pimp-mode with one arm hanging over steering wheel* </PIMPMODE>

Its a grand marquis, man, you MUST BUY IT!!!!

and its a '91. Best vintage.

I love Sables and Grand Marquis. They are so awesome. You have no idea how many people can fit in my 91 Sable. the grandmarquis is just a sable plus another half sable, or thereabouts. You should totally go for it man, you may never find another grand marquis for 1000 dollers. I'd hat to pass up a chance like that.

Yeah the backseat can seriously hold 4 or 5 people no problem... and the trunk could fit probaly 4 dead bodies. :p

That's my friend's test for a car's practicality. He says that a car has to be able to hold at least one dead body. :D

I'm going to agree, for 800-1000$, it is probably a good deal.
