YACT: 1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Won't start

Battery is brand new, all the wires are new. The thing cranks, the starter goes, but no ignition. It has power and the headlights come on nice and bright. Any suggestions on troubleshooting? Pull the distributor?

did you contact syringer?

car needs 3 things to start. Fuel, air and spark. Check the plugs and see if theey have fuel. Too much and it will not work. Too little and your engine goes "boom."

Toasted Lightly is right, if it has an electric fuel pump you will need to check it also.

technically you should look at it as gas and spark... air? no... I mean yes it needs air but your filter would have to be NASTY to not let air through.

Any number of things can prevent air from getting in. It's just that a fscked filter is the most obvious one. And I don't think an '87 Alfa Romeo is turbo'd, so heh.

You should've called it an Alfa Romeo convertible..

Well, the first problem is that the car is Italian.

But yeah, check the fuel pump relay, then the pump itself. Double check that each plug is getting spark, and make sure that there's good compression.

Italian cars of that vintage are notorious for fuel pump problems. The above is good advice.
