I was leaning towards a Mazda3, but then I thought I can also get an Acura RSX, or a VW Jetta or something in that same range.... just a thought :)

Why? The Focus might be perfect for you, if you want a commuter car? What's with the hate?

By "I hate American cars" do you mean you hate traditionally American car companies, or do you mean cars physically manufactured in America? For instance, my Toyota Sequoia was manufactured in Indiana by UAW workers.

That distinction aside, I'd get a used Camry or something. Nice mix of reliability, price, mileage. But it depends on you - how many miles you need to drive - how important mileage is to you (is 25 vs 30 a deal breaker?) Lots of things depend totally on you - you've got a good budget for a nice used car.

:) I'd buy that if it weren't a manual... the commute for the new job will be something of a pain, and I already have my manual car --- an m3 :)

If it's made in the rust belt, then I am not interested in buying it.

Don't buy a Honda then. A lot of them are built in Ohio.

That knocks a whole lot of excellent cars off of your list. Your loss, I suppose.

Brand spanking new Honda Fit ftw. Nobody will ever mistake it for an American car, if that's what floats your boat, and it's a Honda that is actually built in Japan.

Imagine that!

And NOTHING beats new! :p
