YACT - 15 grand for a car...

I can't make myself spend more than 15 grand. The 3 cars I'm thinking about are in the Pole. Should be able to get into one of those no more than 2-3 years old with under 50K miles.

I should add that I'm a 35 YO guy with 2 (soon to be 3) kids and cars like a Mazda Miata would not go over well with the Mrs.

Maxima.

The VQ30DE is a very, very strong engine.

My dad drives a 6 speed 2005, I drive a 6 speed 2001 (Engine/trans from a 2003).

Hmm Maxima is leading. Here's the only one close to my price range I could find nearby - maybe I need a different search engine:

Edit: here's one with lower mileage/better price

Autotrader is your friend.

If you're buying new, go to Hoffman Estates Nissan. We got all four of our Maximas there, and they'll definately help you out.

BTW: The 2001's had some issues with the engines. At the first sign of trouble I just got a front clip with less miles than I had and swapped it over.

You are asking the WRONG guy.

I would get a OLD car for cheap and put 10-12K into it, IMO you would end up with a better car and one that could go UP in value instead of down......

for 17k you can get a new accord

That's gonna be a real base model though right? Manual no power etc.

06 auto accord VP $17,132 invoice

Accord spec/feature list

I don't know about your state, but my area it's pretty easy to get an accord at invoice. Financing is almost always better on new cars also, which can save something around 1K over the life of the payments.

Accord VP has power windows, CD player, keyless entry, AC and side airbags standard. It is missing power mirrors and only has 2 speakers (yes ghetto). I'm told though rear speakers are easy to add, the harnesses/mounts are supposedly there already.

Alot of the 2-3 y/o cars don't have side airbags standard, which are life savers in side collisions, particularly against trucks/SUVs.

Accord gets significantly better gas mileage than the maxima. That generation maxima has kind of crappy rear dead beam suspension (non independent).

Like for example...

I'm not a mechanic 😀

Last gen maximas are sex. The new ones are probably the biggest let down lookwise for a name maxima made for itself.

I should mention - I currently have a 1995 Geo Prizm LSI with 180,000 miles on it. It runs fine, just drinks a quart of oil per month. Has some windshield cracks, been rear ended twice. I want to get it through winter.
