The whole problem stems from the fact that it is a stick and I really really suck at driving maunal transmissions. I want an automatic.

so practice driving stick. i learned in the 5th of month of having my permit and after a few weeks, i was pretty good. i drive stick better than automatic now. manual is hella better than automatic

Agreed completely. I learned to drive with a manual trans and haven't driven anything else since really. Anytime I drive an auto I find myself going for the phantom clutch pedal. Hell, the last time I slammed on the brakes when slowing down thinking I was going for the clutch to downshift. So yes, to recap, I drive a stick better than an automatic.

Oh come on. You'll get better at it, and one day you will realize you change gears without thinking about it. It will come natural to you, just give it time.

AWD != higher insurance, Impreza = higher insurance

Look at a Legacy. Only slightly heavier than an Impreza, slightly larger, but MUCH MUCH safer. Got top rated IIHS safety tests, much lower insurance, 173HP 2.5L H-4. You can get leather and all the fixins you want, but not in that price range. You can get a more basic one in your price range I believe. If you can splurge to like $24-25K you can get a 250HP turbo H-4 Legacy GT 😀

it wont be lower than the insurance on the 9-2X though.

the 9-2x got lower insurance costs than even the WRX Wagon did.
Insurance for my Legacy is cheaper than it would be for a WRX....like has been mentioned its all because of the kids that wrap WRXs around poles. The Legacy doesn't carry that stigma.

To the OP: Just learn to drive stick ya pvssy!😛
Yeah - my LGT is $200 less a year to insure than my WRX wagon was. And ithe Leggy is a good bit faster.

I'd have to go with a Legacy. It looks better than an Impreza and has pretty much everything you want.

And like a few others said, the insurance should be cheaper because it isn't the car of choice for idiots thinking they're rally drivers.

For some reason I read the OP and it said he wanted an automatic so the WRX is out of his list, but the WRX can be had with an automatic transmission.

I guess I also have to rub it in that the Subaru Legacy would probably be the car for you as it is positive in so many characteristics except gas milage and maybe interior design/quality.
Get the Legacy GT if you can as the interior is better and much more sportier. Tough to meet your price at 20k though.

For state farm the Legacy insurance is lower than the WRX, again as everyone said the WRX rates are higher due to hot shots totaling their car.
