YACT: 06 Impreza 2.5 or 04 Saab 9-3

Notes:
-I need an automatic, so the new WRX is out
-I currently have a Saab 9-2x and I'm not game with the Wagon look to it
-I know someone will ask if I will be in snow and the answer is I'm not sure yet. I have 2 2nd round job interviews to go to and one is in Phoenix, AZ and the other is in St. Louis, MO. So depending on which, yes there will be snow or no, there won't be any.
-I know the two cars are not in the same class but the price puts it there.

Pro Impreza:
-New I could get for around 18ish
-AWD, good AC, stable car, etc

Neg Impreza:
-AWD = higher insurance
-Since I'm downgrading from a 9-2x I kinda got spoiled with the leather and xenon lights and such...

Pro Saab:
-The exterior of the 9-3 is very sharp in my opinion
-I'd be getting a certified preowned so the warranty would be covered until 2010
-turbo & it is one fast and spunky car
-Insurance is lower than impreza (as funny as that sounds)
-Tweenie class of car
-Used I can get for around 19 or 20 w/ only 25k on it (Becasue Saabs depreciate like no car I've seen in the first year)

Neg Saab:
-Not the most reliable in the world, but the 6 year warranty would cover me for that
-Interior is nothing to be impressed by

Suggestions?:
-I've looked into every car in the book and am still on the wire about what to get.
-I used to have a 94 Civic DX so I'm done with that if anyone suggests the 06 civic.
-I want a sedan (So no RSX)
-I kinda want to move onto more luxury-class. (So no Mazda3)
-I don't trust VW so no Jetta (I was actaully in one of those new beetles when it died...insane experience)
-Have around 20-23ish to blow including tax (So sadly, no TSX or A3)

My brother has an 04 Impreza 2.5rs and that is one solid car. If you want to spend a little more, because the 2.5rs new can be easily had for under 20k, you could spend a little more and get teh WRX. Just a tad higher in insurance costs and you'll have to run premium instead of regular what the 2.5rs can use.

The 9-2x is a rebadged WRX Wagon. So you bought it and just now realised you dont like how it looks? 😕

I have a WRX Sport wagon... would love to have the 9-2x

Your 04 9-2x IS almost the exact same car as an 04 Impreza WRX wagon. Same chassis, engine, drivetrain, etc. You should keep it.

Yeah I know...2 factors went into that purchase

-A my friend was a Saab dealer and kinda needed help
-I got it when GM had that whole employee pricing on it so I got a 26K MSRP car w/ all of the fixins for 19K. It was just like one of the Anandtech deals that I couldn't pass up
-My Civic's AC died in the middle of the AZ summer so I was a tad desparate.

You can get a new 06 WRX for 18??? And I dont think AWD = higher insurance. Its all those kids that wrap their WRX's around trees that make the insurance high.

How about a Mazda6? Im not sure if rebates are still going on but you can get a pretty decent package for a low price.

He's talking about the Impreza 2.5i -- the non-turbo, non-WRX version of the Impreza.

The whole problem stems from the fact that it is a stick and I really really suck at driving maunal transmissions. I want an automatic.

It does. It's like 9 sec 0-60 and a 17 sec. 1/4 mile. Absolute dog IMO. It's only selling point for Subaru is that it's like the cheapest car in the world with AWD.

You got a kickass deal on the 9-2x, I keep kicking myself for not buying one. $19k for a loaded WRX (basically) with leather? I'd go out RIGHT NOW and buy one if it was available for that price.

You've had the car for almost a year and can't drive stick? Wow.

no.. the 9-2x aero is MORE than a loaded WRX.

its got nicer dash materials, STI steering ratio, and some other things from the STI, and more.

MIKEMIKE: ok yeah, but that wasn't my point. My point is that he's an idiot for thinking about getting rid of it 😀

If they have the same promo running this year, I will own one.

they wont.

that promo was GMS pricing (10-15% off) and on top of that 7500 off in rebates.

it was insane. and i wish i had bought one, but now that i have sat in one, compared to my MAXX the thing is TINY.

AWD != higher insurance, Impreza = higher insurance

Look at a Legacy. Only slightly heavier than an Impreza, slightly larger, but MUCH MUCH safer. Got top rated IIHS safety tests, much lower insurance, 173HP 2.5L H-4. You can get leather and all the fixins you want, but not in that price range. You can get a more basic one in your price range I believe. If you can splurge to like $24-25K you can get a 250HP turbo H-4 Legacy GT 😀

it wont be lower than the insurance on the 9-2X though.

the 9-2x got lower insurance costs than even the WRX Wagon did.

Nah, I can drive it perfectly. But I don't trust myself on hills...or better put I don't trust the pr1ck who comes up right on my @ss and I know I'm going to roll back at lease 1FT before accelerating forward.

Yes I did get a good deal and it is a good car...and no it is not a WRX...it is a linear so non-turbo.

Either way it doesn't matter...the car is getting sold and is already arranged.

I'll look into the legacy some more...any more suggestions?

Insurance for my Legacy is cheaper than it would be for a WRX....like has been mentioned its all because of the kids that wrap WRXs around poles. The Legacy doesn't carry that stigma.

To the OP: Just learn to drive stick ya pvssy!😛
