YACT: 02 sensor removal

I found the oxygen sensor on my 89 ramcharger, but it is placed in such a way that i cant get a socket in to loosen it. Does anyone have any other ideas for removing this?

I tried a pair of pliers to no avail.

Ratcheting wrench should do the trick. I love those things, and have almost given up on sockets since starting to use them. They are a little pricey, though.

7/8" wrench, Special O2 socket, or a good pair of Knex pliers.

I have been trying the 7/8" wrench all morning, but i cant get enough leverage.

What are knex pliers?

Don't have any 🙁 and I dont have time to go get one.

You need one of these.

O2 sensor socket

Don't use pliers. You will be screwed if you round off the sensor.

Another possibility is to break off the end of the sensor and use a good 6 point socket
or crows foot. I have one of those O2 sensor sockets in the link and they can take alot
more force put on them than a standard socket type plus allow you to get into a tighter
spot.

1. Spray the thing with PB Wrench
2. Wait
3 Spray it again.
4. Us a longggggg breaker bar 24" is best and an 02 sensor socket (available at Autozone) to get that sucker lose.

5. If that doesn't work heat it up with a propane torch and then use the socket and breaker bar.

The problem is I have no time to go anywhere and get anything.....

Can i drive the car without an 02 sensor?

The wires are cut that go to it, so that i could get the socket on.

You will probably get a check engine light, and it will run rough. May also damage your catalytic converter depending on how rich or lean it runs.

Use some penetrating lube, maybe even take a torch to it and heat it up before you try and loosen it. Find a way to get a socket on it and it will be alot easier, its probably in there quite firmly. Use some anti-sieze on your new one...

yeah but the car's gonna sound like a freaking fartcan ricer in the mean time.

If you know of a good garage, drive there and ask them to get it out. I'm not talking about the chains like Goodyear, Precision Tune, etc., but rather a shop where a couple of brothers own it. That way they would probably get it out in 5 minutes and charge you $5.

Autozone rents the tool free, you should use a liquid wrench product first especially if it's the rear one. I had to do mine and I swore it was going to tear out of the car.

HEAT is your friend... oh and the PB blaster mentioned rocks too.

I should know, I have 5 of those dazm things. 2 up, 2 down and 1 Wideband (w00t to wideband 😉 )

why a wideband with a supercharger? I can see it with a turbo but at: Best Time: 14.98 / 89MPH @ 5800ft

I don't know if all that is necessary. [most widebands are expensive and a waste for most]

as far as: Yes that was a Z28 getting smoked, notice his MPH you n00bs that don't know better 😉 [his mph being almost 94mph] sounds like he spun too much off the line. More than likely a very inexperienced driver.

but yeah heat and pb blaster is cool.

WTF are you rolling your eyes at? Do you know nothing of altitude correction? Sounds to me like you know nothing about the effects of the lack of oxygen on a vehicle.

hmm still even with a second for altitude added to the Z28, they run on average 13-13.5 here with just minor things done.

being he is turning 93mph in the traps I'd say he launched poorly. Still I have no idea why you need a wideband O2 on a supercharged car.
