I'm putting together a new rig that will be used for some engineering work, some vid editing, and some casual gaming. I'd appreciate any suggestions that people have.

Motherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe $165.00
Processor: Athlon 64 3500+ Venice Socket 939 $201.00
RAM: GeIL Value 2GB (2 x 1GB) Unbuffered DDR 400 $204.99
Hard Drives: WD Caviar SE16 250GB $119.00
DVD: LITE-ON Black 16X DVD-ROM $25.99
Floppy: SAMSUNG Black Internal Floppy Drive $10.49
Video Card: XFX Geforce 7800GT $299.99
Case: Antec P180 $135.68
Power Supply: Antec NeoPower 480W $101.24
Heatsink: ZALMAN CNPS9500 $59.99

I already have monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers. I'll just be using onboard audio for now. I'd especially welcome opinions on the hard drive and processor. I'm thinking that a 3500+ may be more appropriate. For the vid card, I was originally thinking of a 6800GT but due to a current rebate, I can get the 7800GT for only $50 more, plus I get COD2 with it. I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on this so any advice is welcome.

Edit: Changed from a Lian-Li V1100 to an Antec P180. It's just so much cheaper.
Edit 2: Changed from 3000+ to 3500+ and from Maxline III 300 GB to Caviar SE16 250 GB.

I'm sure you've thought about it, but I have never had anything but problems with onboard audio. Maybe things have chenged. I'm sure you can get a 5.1 card for $20 or less.

Overclocking will be very modest. Frankly, if I hit the wall with only only a 100 MHz gain or whatever, that's fine. I'm not going to be taking the time to squeeze every last Hz out of the system, or I would have gone with the DFI Lanparty. I do want to take advantage of any free performance that's easily accessible though. I have no plans to go SLI at this time, but I do want to leave the option open for the future.

If you SLI 2 7800GT's in the future, it'll be like the performance of SLI'd Geforce 4's currently. It's not worth the money, and the performance would just be outdated. I recommend the MSI Neo4 Platinum. It's a very feature-rich board that'll give you a pretty decent overclock. Or the EPoX 9nPA+ Ultra. Both will save you some money compared to that SLI-Delux.

The order's already in by I'm having last minute second thoughts on the proc. Would I be better off with a 3000+ or a 3200+ instead of the 3500+? I'm willing to put in some effort to OC but I don't want to be spending hours on it.
