YACDT: Quite the dilemna, help!

So we just opened presents early, since my sister couldn't wait any longer...and apart from some clothes and whatnot, my mom bought me a PS2 Online Pack from Cost Co, which comes with one dual-shock, ATV2, Rachet & Clank, 8 meg mem card and network adapter. Now, I have some time before opening it, since I'm going to wait til after the holidays to see if console prices really do drop again...and I'm not sure that I need the online playability. Here's my problem between an X-Box and PS2:

PS2: Great support for games, lots of stuff out there, lots to come...as much as I'm an N-fanboy, Sony just has great games. But that's about it...I wouldn't need the DVD playback, so the PS2 would be purely a gaming system.

X-Box: Great hardware for mod-ability...if I got an X-Box, I would definitely mod it and up the hard drive...which gives me DVD playback (not an issue), plus divx/media playback (I have a WTB: Lite-On 2001 DVD player thread going as I type), which makes it a good media center console with some good games.

The problem is that before I got into being an HT nut like I am now, I was really into the trading scene online, so I want some way to play all the divx movies that I have. Furthermore, I had planned on building an HTPC after I got some more money, to be a media center and custom DVD player to my soon-to-be-had projector. The problem with that, now, is that I'll also be getting a Denon 2200 player for SACD and DVD-A playback, so I'll have a pretty damn good set-top player already. An X-Box with HTPC would probably be overkill, but I want the advantages of an HTPC->projector.

Quite the quandary...any input would be appreciated. I certainly can't lose in this situation, but the decision is still gonna be a bitch. 🙂

No, she wouldn't be offended...I'm getting a system, no matter what, just which one. 🙂 She's cool like that, she realizes she doesn't know about video games.
