YACCT: What card to get to pay for the wedding?

Jzero

Lifer
My "main" credit card is one for which a portion of my spending is donated to my alma mater, but it's kinda useless because they don't give much...

I charge most everything, so I could do pretty well with a good rewards card.

But the kicker is that it's getting on time to start paying for my impending wedding, and there's no reason not to charge it and reap some rebates or frequent flier points or anything else.

Anyone suggest a good rewards program? I've got excellent credit.

we have american express blue with some kind of rewards program. i'm not sure of the details, but we recently cashed in a bunch of our points to get $250 in GCs to home depot which we used to buy a new gas grill.

EDIT: we could have used the points toward GCs at other stores too like toys'r'us and sharper image i think.

I use citi and Amex blue and both work all right(basically 1% back in Home depot certs on everything, sometimes doubles) I'm sure there are much better, so I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Yah, the balance won't live long enough to accrue interest. Just seems silly to pay cash when I can charge it and get a little something back.

Absolutely, IF you have the cash to pay it back.

Otherwise it's justice of the peace on a Wednesday.

You have 2 main choices:

1) Cash back, depending on the amount you might get back up to 2% or points. Personally I prefer cash over "points".

2) Airline miles. Unfortunately most airline cc's carry an annual fee but you could earn a free roundtrip airline ticket if you charge enough.

I agree with BigSmooth to regularly check this for more information and updates.

I'd say Amex Blue with Cash Rewards. Far more useful then the reward points bullcrap.

Yah I was reading about the Amex Blue on the FW thread above. That one seems pretty solid, although the distinction between "everyday" purchases and other purchases annoys me. I'll only get like $150 back on the wedding. 🙁

I already got $2.xx back. I haven't even spent all that much?

How is Discover? They have a decent-looking card that's got gas rebates and cash rebates, but I always thought Discover was crappy and somewhat limited in who accepts them...
