probably time for me to get my own CC and stop using my moms, she said she'd co-sign or whatever with me, being my frist card and all. I'm 19, going into my 2nd year of college, no credit to my name...hold a steady job(part time).

was looking at the Chase Perfect-Card.......and what does it mean by 3% off on gas, and then another 1% off on everything else....what does that do for me? And APR doesn't mean much to me if i pay off my balance every month like clockwork right?

$#@!

If you're looking for a good rewards card on gas purchases, check out the MBNA AAA card
http://www.aaaca.com/buffer/finance/mbna_cc.asp

well what does the rebate apply to? just everytime i get gas i get 3% off or what?

edit - just looked at that card, it says "Purchases made at a Gas Retailer which does not process transactions under this code will not qualify and you will not receive the gas rebate"

err, so how often do you come accross a place that offers that?

Dude just go for the Citibank cards. Personally use the Dividend card myself. Citibank Cards. I believe it got the Rossman stamp of approval. I've been using Citibank cards for years, ever since I ditched the crappy Nextcard. Do a search as this has been discussed before as well.

Yep I love my CitiBank Dividend Platinum Select.

1% flat cash rebate on all purchases, no weird tiered pricing.
Good APR.
Good balance transfer rates.
No annual fee.
FREE Extra 1 year warranty on purchases.
CitiBank 1 time use cc's
etc.

Yeah I currently have this problem with my wife. She's new to this country and has no credit history. So of course no CC company will give her a card. I have no idea on how to start building up her credit.

I think AMEX would be a bad choice since it is not as widely accepted like VISA/ MC

I've got an AMEX Blue for Students and it's accepted at all the places I shop: grocery stores, electronics stores, online, etc. Usually at the places it's not accepted (i.e. restaurants or golf courses or similar smaller places) I use my Visa Check Card. I was worried about the number of places AMEX would be accepted but it's been no problem at all for me.
