I have set aside 700$ or so for a new conroe build. I saw these lil guys hit some high bench marks so I want to get me a decent setup! I have the ram already, but am trying to figure out what to get! I have a 2005FPW that I will be using.

I am a pretty avid gamer so nothing TOO cheap (BF2, CS:S, WOW, WC3TFT, Q4, etc) . I have been watching conroe build threads, so here is mine, help me out people. I bought the ram, knowing that conroe's and the boards they sit in are sassy with the RAM, so I am trying to build the PC around the RAM I have right now. Please let me know what you think!

CPU - E6400 - 256$ shipped
RAM - CORSAIR XMS2 PC2 5400 - already have
MOTHERBOARD - MSI p965 Neo-F 106$ shipped
CASE - PC-7B 95$ shipped
VIDEO CARD - X1800XT - 206$ shipped
PSU - Fortron 450W 58$ shipped
HARDDRIVE - Seagate 320gb 7200RPM 3.0GB/S 16MB CACHE - 94$ shipped

TOTAL SO FAR - 819

will be updating as suggessions and ideas given or I add something!

I am having a little trouble with the video card...what would be choice for about 200$?

also that psu should run everything , correct? and that mobo/cpu/ram combo should work well? I am all for getting a newer chipset though, for about 100-150?

the x1800xt you chose would be the best for that price. it looks really good for an $800 build. i'm not sure how that motherboard compares with other so i would read anand's reviews on the core 2 duo motherboards

The msi is a horrible OCer. Read the threads in the mobo forum. Actually, there's no good 965 mobo out at this time. The gigabyte DS3 is your best bet. If you want a good OCer, you should try the intel D975XBX, and even though I hate asus, the P5W DH is supposedly good as well.

I don't know how you got 720. You didn't total the case yet. And lian Li's set you back a good 300 bucks. If you can't afford that, I'd say the thermalrock eclipse is good. It's black, has a side window, and is stylish. There's a problem with front USB and having the case doors open at the same time though.

Talcite your info re. the lian-lis is a little skewed, as vivi said.

Only the high, high end lian-li cases hit $300, you can pick up a decent one for less than $100.

This one's pretty sweet for $95.

yup, thats what I was aiming for Mogadon! Can anyone think of some compatability issues? Is my ram too slow for this processor?
