I'm looking to get rid of the piece of junk CD deck in my truck. I'd also like to put something in its place naturally.

What are some of the better brands/models in the sub $200 range?

Thanks!

Not sure about the price range, but I picked up an Alpine CD/MP3 headunit about 18 months ago off the FS/FT forum for about $220 shipped. It's still working great, even though I mainly use the AUX inputs for my Sirius unit now.

Get an old Pioneer Premier DEH-P750MP from ebay. If you must have one new or don't care about high-volt preouts then get the DEH-P6700MP.

I  my Pioneer (DEH-P7600MP)...It was $250 when I bought it over a year ago, but I imagine it should be at or under $200 by now. 🙂

I just got this Alpine a couple of days ago. So far it's been great. Excellent sound and handles some really old mp3 discs that even my computer can't read anymore. With a Crutchfield/Visa coupon that's floating around on deal sites it's $139 shipped.

What are high-volt preouts?

I have the same one. Works for me.

for that price you can get a NICE JVC or Kenwood deck. Why pay more for a cheap deck with pretty buttons?

I bought a Clarion, and it's pretty sweet. As long as you buy Clarion, Eclipse, Pioneer, or Alpine you should be fine.

Its ugly but Eclipse SQ is near the top.

He's right. I love my Alpine that I mentioned earlier, but when it's time to be replaced, Eclipse will be it. My buddy has a unit that will accept a media stick and rip CD's to it as well. Pretty cool novelty to go along with the GREAT SQ.

any good deck will give you <.07% THD which is less distortion than the human ear can distinguish.

so basically what you are saying is that a Roadgear HU has the same SQ as Denon or a Macintosh HU. Maybe I am not getting you here?
