I've been looking for a decent MP3 compatible headunit for a little while now, and am not looking to spend much more than $170... basically as cheap as possible without getting Happy Meal toy quality. After shopping around, two good choices seem to be the JVC KD-SX990($150 after rebate + coupon at Crutchfield) and the Pioneer 4500MP ($170 at SoundDomain) I already figured out how to take off the dash trim, and remove the old radio, so I think all that will be needed for the install wil be splicing wires from the harness to the new stereo.
Both SoundDomain and Crutchfield are offering free mouting kits and wiring kits.
Here are my questions to the AT Car Audio Gods:
1. Is the "master instruction sheet" from Crutchfield worth the extra cost, opposed to sounddomain, as all I've already know how to do most of the prep work for the install?
2. Is the Pioneer quite a bit better for the $20?
3. Are there any other headunits in the same price range that you would recommend over those I listed?
4. Are there any other reputable online shops that generally would lower my total spent (on kits + actual head unit)?
Thanks in advance!
