Are there any good guides for installing CD decks into 1992 Ford Rangers?
I have no idea what I'm doing. Many thanks in advance.

Take it to Circuit City, if you don't know what you're doing. It'll save you time and headaches.

Just a deck?
Pull the old one (may need a special tool - Link - but I've pulled Ranger radios without them), buy a wiring harness Link, attach it to your car's plug, and attach the wires on the harness to the wires on the radio (the words and colors will make it easyand use solder if you want but I just use connectors)
Bam! You're done.

where did u buy the deck from? i'm not a pro by any means, but i was able to install my head unit with the docs that crutchfield.com gave me. crutchfield is pretty cool becuz they give u docs and pretty much everything else u will need to get the head unit installed. they also provide phone support (which i did use, and was quite happy with).

he bought the deck from an awesome place that provides install tips through PM's on AT.
then all you have to do is cut the wires after the butt connectors and go color to color. Unless your old deck never worked. that is...Originally posted by: upsciLLion
Yeah. I wasn't the one that put it in though.

Color to color with the connector for the deck itself?

yep...use the one in the CD player box and forget about the other wiring harness.

Or you have the option of buying an aftermarket harness for around $15, attaching that to your new radio's wires. Then the final thing to do is to click the aftermarket harness directly into the factory one.
While Cr0tchf33l's docs are probably all good and fine. It's not really neccessary... nowadays it's just "color to color" from your aftermarket radio to your aftermarket harness. The wires are usually labelled as well. As long as your factory wiring harness is in good shape, you're in the clear.

All right, will do. Do you recommend using crimp on connectors, solder with electrical tape, or something else?
