YACAT: Are there any new head units out that have the ability to play mp3s off a DVD+R?

I remember looking for one about a year ago and the only company that made one was JVC. Are there any new units out that can do this?

dude get an ipod, and get a new car that has an ipod connection

i dont think they will do it, ipod is way too popular, your lucky they keep popping those CDR-MP3 head units

i'm not sure about head units per se, but i know that the newer in-dash tvs can. i have a friend that got one for around $600-$700 that will

Somehow that doesn't seem nearly as cost effective as just getting a new head unit.

A few JVC models have the feature. They call it GigaMP3. So far they are the only one that's hyping that feature but I'm sure other companies will follow shortly.

They keep making them because not everyone wants to lug their ipods around everywhere they go. I don't have an ipod but I can only imagine how quickly a PITA it will be to disconnect and reconnect the thing every time I leave the car so it wont get stolen.

You're not gonna get your car broken into for a DVD-R disk, but you will for an ipod.

Add in the cost of an in-car charger, and the hassle of dealing with an iPod instead of a head unit.

Note:
I paid $220 shipped for my DV5100.
Plays MP3s from DVD-R and CD-R, goes through folders easily.
Can play movies if a display was attached.
Has an 1/8" jack on the front for an ipod or something.

Where's the down side?

No need to get an ipod and a new car that can use the ipod. (who tf gets a new car for an ipod...)

I don't think any other units can do it. It's a relatively uncommon feature even in DVD player head units. If a head unit or portable player supported it, it would be prominently listed as a feature as the JVC unit does.

I might have to pick up that JVC one, then - I'm partial to Pioneer, but DVD MP3 playback would be nice.

<- stuck with cassette atm 🙁

the DVD drive for navigation in a e90 3 series works just fine for that, but then u lose nav. friend is looking for something he can mount in the trunk like a cd changer but for DVD's.

aux is for an ipod is kinda crappy

yea, I just read the reviews and it doesn't support +R media. 🙁 I only have a + Burner and don't want to buy another one.

Does anyone know if any other companies have DVD mp3 support in the works?
