YACarT: heat sheilds, and how improtant are they?

1995 ford taurus GL

heat sheilds

other side of heat sheilds

the bigger one fell off this morning, i heard a clanging when i went over some bumps, after a perticular bump i hear something dragging

so i pulled over saw it hanging and just decided to pull it off, since it wont seem to do any good just hanging there

i had the same type of incident with the little one about a year ago

both were pulled from the same general area in the middle of the car just behind the front wheels


is this something i should worry about?

looks like the heatsheild on the pipe leading to the catalytic converter and the one that goes under the cat. You don't really need them but I wouldn't park on dry grass with the car running. The cat can get pretty damn hot.

thanks for the responses, when my car savy friend gets home ill raise the car a bit and try to get pics of the underside if need be

Good man. Understands the importance of pics. Make sure to take some of hot chicks (obviously) if you see them.

its only got 89,000 miles on it too

also- hasn't been washed since the day i got it june 2004

That's probably the issue. Lots of salt and no cleaning leads to rust.

If a car company put heatshield on a car they put them there for a reason. I doubt they would spend money making and installing a part that was not needed.

I would try and put them back on.

you should know that there are no hot girls in our school

well maybe on the architecture floor, but they are very elusive

Oh, and I just thought of something else. With that substantial weight reduction, your 1/4 mile times will be better next time you bring that thing to the track.

They are there for a reason. Probably to prevent the hot exhaust from damaging a component under extreme driving. (Towing uphill with the A/C on....)

from how they were hanging i think they were more in a position to prevent heat going down

like the dry grass thing that was mentioned, but ill take a look at it more with my friend
