Any of you bike guru's have any novel idea's, I would appreciate it with this problem. 3 times now I have had my chain come completely off the track on my bike when switching to gear 3 (the higher gear at the front, not sure of the proper terminology).

Any ideas ?

The front dereailleur is the problem, but there can be another issue here...

Be sure that when you shift into the higher gear at the front, your rear derailleur is also in a higher gear. Normally, the last 3 gears or so on the opposite end of the cassette are almost useless because they can put the chain in a bind and cause it to do all sorts of bad stuff.

I will look into the limit screws, thanks Fausto.

Scarpozzi, so if I switch from the 2nd front gear to the 3rd, I should make sure I am in the highest lower gear before hand ? So the 7th gear on the rear dereailleur ?
