YABBR - Best Buy set up barriers so you can't get into the computer area?

OK, my keyboard was acting up so I went to OfficeMax on Sunday. I saw what I liked, but since Best Buy was right next door I decided to go and check to see if they had any good sales. They had the whole computer department walled off with printers so you had to go through a gate where you were accosted by a Geek. After convincing him that I did not need his handholding I went to the keyboard aisle, as usual overpriced and nothing on sale. I have to go through a similar experience when I leave with another Best Buy associate.

Is this just the local Best Buy or have they all descended to the final pit of hell?

OP, I see you are in NC...

I know that local bestbuys here in Charlotte will do that (barricade computer area) on tax-free weekend (which was this weekend)...maybe that's why they were barricaded

Your Profile says RTP - was this at Crossroads, Glenwood Ave or 15/501? The BB at Crossroads is the absolute, worst ever store I've been to in my life. They actually make the other two BBs feel like a shopper's paradise. The CC in Glenwood Ave. is a close competitor though 😛

This was actually in Cary. I have a part-time job there so I stopped by on my lunch break. Usually you have to drag me in one kickin and screamin, but with a non-working keyboard there really wasn't a choice in the matter.

The tax free holiday was a joke as well. I picked up a wireless keyboard and mouse, some clipart in a box, a webcam, and a couple packs of paper....the only thing that was tax free was the ten cent packages of paper. No computer parts whatsoever???

I haven't seen any like that. However, those bast*rds won't let me touch the packages of RAM until I pay for them. What do they think I'm going to steal the HUGE oversized plastic container that it's in (i think it was actually made to hold VHS tapes or something) and set off every alarm in that place? Here, they guard the RAM with their lives.

They probably did it to control theft. If everyone has to exit the computer area through the same 'gate,' they're able to monitor what people are taking out and into the area. I dunno, possible scenario.

Or maybe they wanted everyone to feel like sheep thtat were being herded about by pasty faced geeks asking "Can I help you" every 5 feet while annoying the customer to the point of a near panic attack. All of them were wearing those stupid Geek Squad T-Shirts as well.

You should bring one of those infrasonic guns...you know, the ones that produce low freq. sounds to induce vomiting. 😀 Mwahahaha

IIRC, the police were developing such things to incapacitate fugitives. 😀
