YABBR - Best Buy Rant

Back in December I purchased a Toshiba laptop for $250 after rebate including the 3 year service plan. Well in the past two months it has been away at service 2 times for a total of 6 weeks. The first time they had to replace the motherboard. Well I just got it back from the second go around and the problems stated and replaced were CPU Defective and Software Defective. With the Software Defective note comes a subnote stating: "There was a problem with your Hard Drive or Software. Some data may be missing, or you may be required to reinstall your applications."

Sure enough everything is gone except Command.com. Since when is some equal to all?

When you buy from Best Buy.

Like, when they say "It will only cost *SOME* of your money..." they mean ALL. 😛

Seriously, they're probably using some kind of form or form software that just has checkboxes. And making like $8 an hour to boot.

At least they're taking care of it for you. Thats more than a lot of people are reporting about BB. 🙁

I didn't have anything on there, but my point was directed towards the hundreds of users that would not know what to do with a laptop or computer when it was returned with absolutely nothing on it.

That reminds me of back in 1991-1992 when I was a relative compter n00b and I was trying to fix a problem with my Grandmother's computer's hard drive. I went into the BIOS and ran a low-level HD check and before running it said something like "Caution, running this MAY cause lost data." The freaking thing did a low-level format. Damnit I was pissed.

I had a 1 year warranty on the only computer I ever got from BB. I took it in once to have the motherboard replaced. They had driver issues, so they reformatted the whole thing, and my first year of college went with it. This began my conversion into the DIY world of computers. I had other problems with that rig, but never took it to BB to be repaired again.

That's the one thing I hate about warranties, there's no substitute while they're fixing it. They say it can take up to 6 weeks. If you're having your only tv, washer, dryer, fridge, computer, vacuum fixed, then what are you supposed to do in that 6 weeks?
