It's being given as a gift, however the Thermos would cost me an additional $100.

UPDATE

So, stopped at Home Depot on my way home after deciding on the Char-Broil. They had 6 assembled in store. Knowing that it wouldn't fit in my rig assembled, I looked for a boxed one. Couldn't find any. Found someone to help me after about 15 min, and they found 4 outside in the garden area.

Get it home, crack her open and start taking all the pieces up to the deck in the back, from the garage (it's a heavy box!).

Get it all up, get the kids settled with dinner and start to survey the parts. First, NO MANUAL/INSTRUCTIONS!

No prob, quick visit to their website, and I'm looking at the pdf on my laptop.

Get about half way thru, and THE FRONT FACEPLATE THAT COVERS THE FRONT OF THE "CART" IS MISSING!

WTF??!! This isn't like being short a screw. This is a 3'x2' piece of black metal that goes across the front of the thing.

I continue the build, since it isn't a critical part, and to see if anything else was missing.

Turns out it was the only thing. Called up their 800 number, and less than 2 min and a "Have a good evening sir" later, the part is on it's way.

Fired it up, and was mesmerized by the blue flame  Been digging thru the fridge for something to grill, but everything is frozen. Oh well. Sans the faceplate, it looks great!!

Agreed. Get the cheapest one unless you can feel a definite difference in the material quality. I doubt the difference would be worth $100.

We all love charcoal, but I have to say... My neighbor gave me his old gas grill... I like gas because I can be cooking in less than 1 minute of warm up time. I still have my charcoal grill for camping out, etc...but I can still get tasty burgers and steaks on my gas grill. :)

You almost lost me here. If you're serious about grilling food, get an inexpensive gas and a nice Weber charcoal. Total cost <$300. Otherwise waste your money on a $$$ gas for "ease of use"...or is that "I can't cook on charcoal and I'm not man enough to learn"?

No, it's "my wife goes to school part time, works part time, and is wonderful enough to make sure myself, our 5yr old, our 2yr old, and herself have something tasty on the table every night. And between all that, she doesn't have the time to bother with charcoal."

Oh. So you aren't the one cooking. Then buy the one your wife likes. And put that dress back on.

I am leaning towards one of the Charl Broils or the Weber "Q". Space is not really a huge issue since it would be only for the two of us and occasional guests. My parents have had a cheap char broil for years and have never had any problems with it. I must have cooked a hundred burgers on it over one summer (just for myself, not including family BBQ's) and it was as easy as can be.

Charcoal adds some nice flavor and is better for a more even cook job, but I don't want to take 30 min to cook my food when I can spend the time I save neffing ;)

EDIT** just a quick FYI, that Thermos is simply a Char Broil rebrand, so you are getting the same "quality" either way, just different models.

Dude, lay off, he wants a gas grill and you don't like that, great, good for you. You made your point now get out of his thread. Some of us actually prefer gas grills for their speed and near perfect heat. If that makes us inferior grillers in the eyes of broon on ATOT then so be it. I can't see many of us losing sleep over that!

I hate the "real men use charcoal BS". I used to be all about charcoal. Nothing was more exciting than standing over the hot briquettes watiting for them to hit the perfect temp... Couple years back, I got my charcoal grill up the the perfect temp, started cooking, the phone rang, and my wife and I had to leave for an emergency. It was a hot/dry day and I could not leave the grill by itself to cooldown for a couple hours. So, I filled bucket with ice and water, ran outside, and poured it over the hot charcoal. This completely ruined my grill because the rapid temp change snapped the grill into a new position. I only use gas now, much faster, still gives good results.

LOL....if you're such a big BBQ/grilling snob, one would think you would know the difference between BBQ and grilling.

I do know the difference and you can't BBQ with gas.

I was merely offering my opinion that while I agree that gas is faster (I use it too), charcoal is much better. For the cost of one of these gas grills the OP could have a less expensive gas grill and a nice charcoal grill. It's all about options and quality cooking...the best of both worlds.
