any recommendations on shoes/pedals? how about SPD vs Look?

for a kona firemountatin that I mainly use on paved trails...in checking out REI, Sun and Ski and bikenashbar, looks like I might be able to to stay under $150...

These were $49.99 at Sun and Ski

shoes were anywhere from $45 - $200, so I woul probably spend around $100..

skimmed through some of the other bike threads but couldn't find any references to some other bike forums...suggestions for those are appreciated as well...
