YAB(eer)T: What is best mainstream American Beer?

Yeh just about every Sam Adams i've had is low to middle average. Exceptions: They have those ~$10 4 packs (an imperial stout, imperial ipa, and one other kind) that are really decent. I also like the latitude 48 ipa. Generally, Sam Adams is jack of all trades, master of none.

Their Summer and Winter Ales are generally very good, IMO. Their Noble Pils? Not so much.

I think you meant to say that you dont like Pils, the noble pils tastes alot like it should, a hopped up pilsner

the lat 48 and black lager are great too

alot of their other beers are just bland

my wife likes the costal summer(I hate lemon so I am not fond of it) and the blackberry(pretty good for what it is)

sam is probably the best widely available american beer. you can go anywhere in the country and you can find it.

is fat tire readily available on the east coast? i'd say it's better than sam but dunno if you can get it over there.

PBR is the best super cheap macro lager.
Sam Adams is the best mainstream macro lager.
Leinies Red is a damn good cheap macro lager.

At the $1 a bottle price range, I prefer Goose Island 312 Urban Wheat Ale, but I don't know if they distribute nationally, or only regional.

I like Newcastle, but a 12 pack of PBR is cheaper than a 6 pack of Newcastle.

But 1 Newcastle is twice as enjoyable as 2 PBR's....

But you still have to take into account the money thing. If I drank nothing but Newcastle and better, I'd have to eat ramen everyday. I still want beer, so price has to be taken in consideration.

A fat, bone-in ribeye is OVER 9000 times better than a $0.49 can of potted meat, but if you only have $2, you don't have much of a choice.

Newcastle isn't really worth the price. Unless you're buying beer at a gas station, there are better options at that price point. I'd probably take the 2 pbrs over the 1 newcastle

If you're talking about mainstream in terms of widespread availability, Sam Adams is probably the best. If you're talking about purely macro "you can get this everywhere" beer, I'd say they're all pretty close (and that's not a compliment), but I'll give a slight edge to PBR. But realistically, why do you want to subject yourself to macro-swill as opposed to enjoying a nice microbrew which actually makes beer enjoyable?

Typical person saying a micro is automatically better than a macro.I've tasted tons of shitty micros. My sister lives in Oregon the microbrew capitol if the country and she visits once a month and I give her money to bring me 10 different brews a month and sure some are very good but many are very bad. There's macros I like as well. I guess if you want to be elitist about it and only drink micros then go right ahead.

I don't know if it counts, but Blue Moon is my favorite. It's brewed by Coors and has pretty solid seasonals. The honey moon summer seasonal is quite good. It's a wheat beer though and some people aren't a fan.
