So I've been doing some research and reading up about the various anti-virus software out there. I've used Norton, and it's very invasive and a decent resource hog. I used a special free version of McAfee offered by our university, which is OK, but apparently the detection rate isn't the best. Then I tried a more feature-rich McAfee Enterprise (also offered free for download at my university) which had on-access scan and email scan and such. I'm still using it at home right now. It's a MAJOR resource hog. Sometimes the on-access scan will scan an entire game directory when you're trying to play a game.
AVG seems like a good free program to use, unfortunately a 69% detection rate is very poor. Same goes for Panda.
The conclusion I've come to is that Kasperky is about the best you can get.
The question I had is which product would you recommend from
their store. What's the difference between personal and pro? What is the yearly fee for updates?
I'm going to be setting up a home network soon, and my fileserver needs to be analy protected. Don't care that much about the other machines; I'm fine using Ad-Aware, Spybot, and McAfee.
Also, can you legally install a copy of Kaspersky on more than one machine (and subsequently get updates on that machine as well)?
