YAATDT: Finally Test Drove an S4.

Audi just does not have a solid reputation. I was looking at previous gen S4's just the other day and of the few examples I could find, one just had the motor/alternator/starter/electronics and a bunch of suspension pieces replaced at 45,000 miles. Sure it was under warranty, but the guy was dumping the car for a cheap price. Clean carfax too.

That just doesn't sit right with me, I know things happen, and there's lemons from every MFG, but damn....probably looking at $10K+ in repairs with a car that's 2 years old.

E46 M3 🙂

Cheers for the mini review. How old are you btw?

Audi also tends to hang almost the entire engine out in front of the axle (at least historically, not sure with the latest gen, I might have read a press release about Audi pushing the engine further back this gen to better weight distribution), to gain more cabin room, which further caused issues with weight distribution. IIRC the M3 E46 was 50.1/49.9 FR and the E92 was 51/49.

They put a lot of effort this time around with mounting the engine farther back in the S4...and the V6 definitely helped shed some pounds in the front of the car. The reviews that I have read said the car drives like a proper rear wheel drive car even though it is AWD. I definitely want to try one of these out.

The S4 was nice, but I really think BMW is the way to go.

I'm not disagreeing with you as I have only driven the 335 and it is a fantastic vehicle to drive...but in the latest Car & Driver...they disagree with you. They say the Audi has finally taken the crown in driving dynamics with this new S4 and the new supercharged V6 is a peach of an engine...possibly even edging out the turbo'd inline 6 in the BMW...which I can attest to is pure motoring bliss. I'm definitely anxious to drive one of these new S4's...and I'd definitely want one with a manual.
