Well, on my way home from work today my collumn decided to start smoking! Nothing like the smell of an electrical part frying itself! That acrid smoke stinks real bad.

So I get my ass off the road and pull my collumn apart with the car still running. ( wasn't sure if it was the ignition switch or what, and I was not about to strand myself if I could help it ) The smoke was coming from the inside of the multifunction switch and the left turn signal would not turn off no matter what position the selector was in. So I disconnected the wires for that (like the collumn cover they were held on my phillups head screws) and wrapped the ends in electrical tape so they would not short if anythign funky happened.

Then went home (without the smoke, but still that great smell) and started calling around for that switch. Pepboys, NAPA, Giant, Lee, ETC could not get it or order it. (figures) So i called up a few Suzuki Dealers. They all gave me the exact same price of $652 for the damn multifunction switch. I knew it was going to be expensive, but I was figuring in the $150-200 range. Owie.

Thankfully I thought ahead and bought a warrantee for the truck when I bought it, and it expires in august. ( it was a 4 year / 50k miles with a $200 deductable, and cost about $400 after I haggled on it. already used it to get a new front pumpkin when I cracked the case, so I already made my $ back) so now I have to see if it covers the multifunction switch. It may not, and even if it did, $200 is more than I want to spend. So I get to call some junkyards tommorow.

Sorry, just felt like bitchin' a little.

we had a suzuki in India and when it blew a multi function switch (the signal stalk (both sides were on this one or two connectors) they had to replace the whole thing..

Funny part is that it was a computer connector that blew out / shorted out. Otherwise the thing worked, so rather than have a local guy jerry rig a new connector to the old wires (or pull the wires out of the old connector and put it in the new one we had to spend 5000 rupees (back in 1992) for it, and that was a lot of money, even for us back then.

Oh well.. live and learn.
