Well, I finally have gone through my first day of full-on Atkins Diet. I'm really proud of myself. We went to Hop's, after deciding Olive Garden would be too hard for me to find something for me (Celebrating my friend being in town). Well, it slipped my mind what I normal got at Hop's! Lol, Baked Potato soup, Chicken Tenders w/ fries and those crousants! LoL. Sucks for me! But I stayed away from temptation. Breakfast I had steak and eggs. And at Hop's I had the Jamaican Steak w/ asparagus and a house salad.

A small question to those on the diet:

What dressings do you use? I went with HoneyMustard, not thinking of it being so bad, but just realized "honey"=sweet=Sugar...So I guess I goofed up there, but it wasn't that much.

Yay for me! First day was a success! Oh, and yeah. I feel like ass right now...I'm so damned tired!

Ranch or Newman's Ceasar salad dressing.

Congrats on doing Atkins for one day. Come back when you make at least 2 weeks.

Be sure to keep up the exercise and drink lots of water.

As for dressing, I usually do fat-free Italian or Thousand Island (but not much)

That's probably because peoplce lose all that weight and then go back to their normal eating habits. You're diet is only as good as you are...if you are weak, it'll show.

Thanks for the positive posts!

Your first day of a diet and you are already blubbering? I don't see you making much progress. ;) Give it a few days. You always have to go through some withdrawal when you severely change your habits. I have been on an extremely low carb diet for a few weeks now and I feel great......better each day in fact. I actually feel less tired these days than I did before I started this diet. Once your body adjusts you should notice the same thing.

Generally, fat-free dressings are loaded with carbs...

Actually... The study you are referring to was comparing Atkins to a low-calorie diet. After six months, people on Atkins lost more weight. After 1 year, they lost about the same as the people on the low calorie diet. Btw... What was your point, anyway?

As for being tired... Give it a couple of weeks. I promise you that you will have more energy, and it'll be more consistant throughout the day. Even after I no longer have any weight to lose, I will never go back to the way I used to eat. :)

Strangely, after falling off the Atkins bandwagon, I seem to have been able to keep the weight off. The only reason that I can think of is that my portion sizes have dropped off dramatically. I just don't get as hungry as I used to.

Tomorrow is the big day that I rejoin the diet with renewed vigor. Hopefully the digestive tract will cooperate. :D

the point is, people don't join fad diets because they don't work. people don't say hey! this new diet i'm on is great! i haven't lost a freakin pound!

fad diet is a fad diet.

I was tempted to try the Atkins Diet to get rid of my beer gut... but I just have to question how healthy it is to completely eliminate some natural things from your diet. I can see eliminating sodas, potato chips, processed foods, etc etc... but eliminate potato's, corn, bread/grain? That seems unhealthy. Now, I'm not very religious, but I believe God gave us what we need to survive... when we process the hell out of it and ad chemicals, that's bad. So... what I'm doing is eating/drinking only natural things. Vegetables, grains, fruits, poultry, beef, fish, water, fruit juices, etc. I have not lost weight cause I don't exercise, and I eat quite a bit of those things... but... I feel healthier than I have in a long time. I'm not tired when I shouldn't be, in fact, I have too much energy... I need 30-32 hours days, since I can easily stay up for 20-24 hours at a time and need 8-12 hours of sleep to function the next day. Beer is the only exception I make =)

*EDIT* I also don't have digestive problems.

Excercise is part of any diet..Atkins requires you to get some excercise to lose weight. Your diet sounds OK..fruit juices im not too crazy about. They take out all the fiber out of your fruits, and are naturally high in sugars..and depending on what kind you drink (hopefully nothing boxed/canned/frozen/etc) it could be doing you much worse than good.

You'd be surprised how much this works.

We are a nation that sits on our asses for our pastime now. What is the number one thing to do while being passively entertained by TV, video games or the net? MUNCH! What do we munch? High carb processed foods like Goldfish, Cheez-its, chips, cookies and the like and we chase them with high calorie sodas.

If you cut out ALL munchies except for apples and bananas and ALL sugary drinks you'll be surprised how much weight you can lose if you exercise too.

Then, all you need to do is switch from white bread/pasta to whole wheat and you're set.

That's right. Unfortunately most people are weak, which is arguably how they got to the stage that they need to lose so much weight anyway. Losing weight is the easy part because it's a short term (depending on weight to lose) goal and you can see an end in sight. Keeping the weight off proves to be the more difficult part for most people.

the only way you're going to keep weight off is if you change your eating habits for LIFE! Sure you can use atkins to lose a lot of pounds in a short amount of time, but you're not going to keep it off if you go back to eating like a fatass. So keep that in mind, and adjust your diet to have less fats and sugars, while keeping protien and carbs really proportionate, when you come off atkins.

hmm, you shouldn't get tired from Atkins, actually the opposite is more likely. After a few days of Atkins, you should feel better, and have more energy. You'll have Hoover dam like constipation though.

I make my own juice =) So it's as pure as it can be.

Like Amused said just cut out the junk carbs like refined sugar/wheat. You don't need to eliminate carbs completely (probably not healthy in the long run anyway).
