The GF and I are on Atkins. Well, she wanted to loose weight, and to support her, I am doing it to. Besides I could stand to loose a few pounds. Anyway, it's been 3 weeks, but we have only lost weight in the first week. We have stayed under 20 carbs and lots of water. We have even taken to doing cardio and weight lifting twice a week. This is becomming very discouraging to her. I am running out of excuses why it's not working. She does have a significant amount of weight to loose and might turn to gastric bypass in a month or so if I can't get her results.

Are we doing something wrong? Anything I should tell her to help her along?

The first drop in weight was all water, FYI

And that is what I have been reminding her. But 2 weeks of this intense of a diet and excelerated activities without 1lb comming off is very frustrating for her.

More than likely some kind of carb is creeping into your food intake, and you dont know it. My suggestion is for a week keep METICULOUS records of what you eat. More than likely, some ingredient in what you eat is throwing you out of ketosis, or else maybe you're eating more than serving size of something, and having that throw off your numbers.

I know when I first started this, I wasn't even working out and I lost siginifcantly. I work out like a horse now, and I'm still losing significantly. It can't be the exercise (blaming it on not enough), because without it, you would still lose noticable weight whilst in ketosis.

If your eating all the Atkin$® food, DONT. A lot of people are affected by sugar alcohols, and they throw off your blood sugar, affecting ketosis. Plus, you'll save money not buying marked-up food products. Just stick to natural stuff.. i.e. salad & veggies, meats, cheeses, etc. You probably shouldn't be eating much fruit or nuts in this stage of the game, so stay away from those until you are consistently losing weight. Once you get back on track, you acan eat fruit/nuts, but PORTION PORTION PORTION. Carbs creep up on you like nobody's busniess.

Any questions, shoot em at me. I'm on consecutive day 145 and >50 lbs. down, with not much else to lose, and I've gained a whole lotta muscle (heavy weightlifting) so realistically I've probably lost closer to 70 lbs. of fat.

I hate to say taht is why women always have problems with diets, they want to see immediate results. My friend, male, who kept a strict diet for 6 months she uses as a reference to what results she wants, but she isn't able to stick to it for the same amount of time.
