YAART: Yet Another Apartment Rant Thread

Before anyone suggests this, I've talked to my landlord and he's talked to both tenants above and beneath me, just so we've got that covered.

I haven't got a full nights sleep in the past 4 nights, it's been getting progressively worse.

This morning at 3:30AM the people upstairs stomped home and started jumping up and down, slamming doors, talking really loud to the point where I could hear their conversation clearly.

The guy beneath me started jamming on his guitar at 4:30 and screeching in his terrible voice the lyrics to whatever song he was playing.

I was nice about it and asked, then sent the landlord to talk to them. No dice, I've got midterms coming up and for the past 3-4 nights I've been woken up between 3:30-4 and I have a difficult time getting back to sleep and inevitably end up staying the rest of the night. This ruins my fun of course because I'm so tired by 8-9 that I go to sleep.

I need suggestions what I can do to even the odds.

I mean right now I'm listened to Lo Que Paso Paso on my Logitech Z-2300s but this is just getting annoying.

Oh did I mention my room smells like dope all the time from the people downstairs? I love my ganja but they always have a blunt running.

Ear plugs. Oh and 8pm - 4am is 8 hours of sleep. Do you really need more than that?

No I don't but I want to sleep normal hours 11-8.

I want to be able to do stuff without spending the latter parts of my day comatose.

Call the cops yo...if you've already asked and then you've asked the landlord and he won't do anything about it...next step....call the cops.

Oh, and earplugs + sleeping meds are $$$.

I used to have a roommate who was an inconsiderate jackass...I would use a fan (as white-noise). Worked like a charm.

1. Complain to your landlord each and EVERY time that they get noisy. Call him as it's going on, wake his ass up and tell him to deal with it. You pay for a nice place to live (I'm assuming it's nice), not for this crap.

2. If he doesn't deal with it, tell him that you're going to get the cops involved for noise complaints.

3. Call the cops if it continues. Mention to them that you've smelled "odd things" outside the downstairs apartment, and you're pretty sure they smoke something, those damn hippies!

4. Try a combination of 1 and 4 over and over, until you get the desired results.

5. If time goes by, and nothing gets better, find a new place to live, tell your landlord you're moving out, and if he tries to pull the whole "You've got a lease still" thing on you, tell him that your lease isn't worth crap if he won't deal with noise complaints, and that you'll complain to your state AG.
