YAAIT: what does "other than collision" cover?

On my policy page, there are 3 sections: liability, collision, and other than collision. I know about the first two. What about the 3rd item? does it cover theft, broken into, etc?

Also, is it possible to get "other than collision" coverage without collision?

Other than collision is normally called Comprehensive. You can get Collision and not Comprehensive, though I don't suggest it.

What about just get Comprehensive and not Collision?

Comprehensive is for when sh!t happens to you car; theft, vandalism, etc.

Collision is when you slam your car into a block wall.

Personally I carry comprehensive but not collision.

Comprehensive also covers hitting animals, trees falling on your car, A sinkhole swallowing it, etc.

Really? Good to know in the even that should happen (pretty slim chance of any of those events).

A trick question: if your car got hit or scratched in the parking lot while you're gone, is that covered under collision or comprehensive?

I hit a deer last Nov. and it was covered under our comprehensive claim. They always say to aim for the animal, rather than swerve, because if you swerve and hit a tree, then that would be considered a collision claim.

Does insurance company usually ask for proof that you're not there at the time of incident? I mean how do they know you were driving or away at the time of incident?

Depends on what hit it, if it's a tree it's comprehensive. If a car hit you it's collision.

😕 If the car is parked and you get hit that's comprehensive.

Wanna bet? If a car hit it, it is under your collision insurance. I should say that it's happened to me. Collision insurance covers any car accident where the other party isn't paying for it, comprehensive covers acts of god and vandalism. Of course I will say this could vary by state.

Huh. I was under the impression that collision only covers damage that's your fault. I guess I could call my provider and ask.....

WRONG!
Look up the definition of "collision" in your policy. It doesn't matter if you were even in the car or not. If someone hits your car with another car, and you elect to make a claim on your insurance, it is collision.
