Standard info: Me: 2001 Toyota Corolla, Them: 1997 Kia Sportage.

Pretty much, I tried to go into a left turn lane, underestimated the space since a SUV was blocking the space, and hit a SUV's rear light shield (the yellow and white, not the red). My mirror holder is cracked and the mirror did come out, but still standing. No scratches on their car, big hole in mine.

I already did the standard procedure: Take contact information, insurance #, license plate, asked to file a police report with the police department (PD said not required).

So I wonder how much I'd have to pay. The person says she doesn't want to go thru insurance, but everyone in the family is freaking out that the person may want pain and suffering charges and sue. Doesn't that mean that they'd have to go thru insurance though too?

Cliffs:
2001 toyota corolla (me) hits 1997 kia sportage's rear light shield.
My right mirror needs to be replaced (whole thing)
Person initially says she doesn't want to go thru insurance.
Her rear light shield for the left side just needs to be replaced.

$$$$? Do I have to pay for a NEW paint job just for the mirror?

Thanks...

Rear tail-light 150-300 bucks depending.

If you don't go through insurance, have them sign something that says they waive your liability for physical injury.

Edit: Don't forget about the labor for the install.

is it a bad thing if I called the other driver several times and no response? It really concerned me, so therefore my family told me to file an insurance claim, which I did...

You guys are all making a mole into a mountian. A tail light for that car is at most aftermarket 40 dollars new. You can get a salvage one for probably 20 considering it's only a 97. Your side mirror would probably be more because you will need to get it painted to match your car color. Unless from what I see the mirror braket is damaged and if you can repair what you have it would be a couple of dollars.

All in all if you go though insurance they will spend probably 200 fixing their 10 year old car by going though the shop. Making your insurance go up. If it were me I would just ask you to cut me at least a $100 check.

I'm looking closely at your damage try the best you can to seperate the "body" portion of your side mirror from the actualy "function" portion so that you won't have to re-paint.

Well we already filed even though they called heh... I have a $500 deductible so the mirror should be fine for us, while I doubt they'd go over our $750 threshold for them.
