The difference? Well, the Monoprice one expands out from the wall, which would help a lot if you ever need to angle the TV to point to one side of the room or the other. So, for example, if your kitchen is next to your living room, you could have it pointed straight forward for viewing in the living room, or pull it out and angle it sideways so that it points toward the kitchen when needed.

The Amazon one just tilts up and down.

Due to the more complicated nature of the Monoprice one, it is probably slightly less sturdy. It will also have a greater torque on the wall if you ever pull the TV out from the wall, so you'd need to make sure the screws are in the wall very securely (especially the top screws). Of course you would do this anyway, but you'd want to make double-sure with the Monoprice mount as compared with the Amazon mount.

Ah - Thank you Slash, I appreciate the breakdown.

I should clarify: I understand the operational differences - I'm looking more at like a build quality, "should I buy this brand or this brand" type of advice.

Not that yours wasn't great ;)

I bought the wall mount for my 42" Hitachi LCD from monoprice, very similar to the monoprice one you listed. The one I have swings out like 24" away from the way: like this one. The build quality is great...the same as the high priced ones you will find at BestBuy or any other store for ~$300... My TV swings out over our bed from the wall on the side of our bed. It is ROCK solid...anchored into a hallow concrete tile wall with 6 concrete anchor screws.

i am using a low profile mount from monoprice for my 46" LCD. I didnt like the lag screws that came with the mount. So I bought my own from HD. No complaints so far. But then again, my mount is a fixed mount - doenst tilt or swing out
