I'm stoked about finally ordering the 2001FP. (I vowed, shortly after its release, not to buy until it hit <$750 shipped and I got in on the deal) It will be replacing my 15" Eizo L365.

Anyway, pertinent system specs are as follows:
Athlon XP 2500+
Abit NF7-S v2
1GB PC3200 @ PC2700
MSI GeForce3 Ti200 64MB

I have NF7Vcore undervolting/underclocking to 1100MHz at idle and default under load, with the entire range of FSB options being performed at 1.30V. I'd like to force my memory to always run at PC3200, but I doubt it would improve my system's performance since I only push my FSB to 333.

The limiting component here is clearly my video card, which I'm only now thinking about upgrading. I do plan to play Doom3, HL2, etc, although I'm more of a weekend gamer than anything. Price is a fairly important consideration, and I'd have to say I'm more of a "best bang for your buck" kind of guy. I am, however, willing to pay a premium for the potential to operate at near-silent levels. I'm thinking my budget won't exceed $300 by very much.

I plan to run my desktop at the native 1600x1200, and would ideally game at those resolutions as well. I want to set my visual details to high quality; so given my price point, it looks like I'll be running at something like 1024x768 or 1280x1024. I've never used AA or AF, so I might fiddle with those options as well.

Anyway, what would you get? I've got my eyes on a 256MB 9800XT or a 256MB 9800PRO flashed/clocked (I've been out of the loop for a while) to XT levels.

For around that price there isn't a great option right now. Wait for the GT's to come out retail and then wait for rev.4 on the vga scilencers to come out and you can probibly stick that on there for >15 dollars. Basicly, wait. If you NEED a video card to play the hell out of doom3 the day it comes out then get the 9800pro 256mb.
