One thing I always thought would be neat is if they decided to do something with the weird parasite alien things from TNG S01 E25 - "Conspiracy"

Dr. Crusher reports that the other parasites, including that in Quinn, have shriveled up, unable to survive without the mother creature that was inside Remmick. As they help to settle matters with Starfleet headquarters, they find that before Remmick was killed, he had sent a signal to a distant quadrant of the galaxy, possibly as a homing beacon to guide an unknown entity to Earth.

Now, these parasite things were originally written into the show to be used as a recurring enemy, but budget and effects constraints meant that the borg took this role instead.

Still, it'd be neat if they did a mini series about a ship way out there that came across these parasites on their way to earth or something.

Yeah, I was always bummed when the ST universe never revisited these little guys. I think the Borg were a better choice, overall, though. However, once I started watching Voyager, I was almost sure that they would encounter the parasites somewhere in the Delta Quadrant .. it would have been perfect, but nope.

Yeah i wondered about them, its a shame a lot of shows do stuff like that where they introduce new enemies and leave an opening for them to return "i dont think we've seen the last of them!" etc but they never do.

Is it those parasites that were intended to be the new main enemy to replace the lacking ferangi? I heard the borg were originally meant to be an insectoid species like the zerg, didnt occur to me they meant the parasites though.

Yep that's what I understand. They didn't have the budget and effects abilities to make a convincing go of it, so they just stuck vacuum cleaner parts onto people and called them cyborgs instead.
