So, I need to buy a digital camera as a gift for someone and I figured what better place to come than AT-DVC?

My budget is about $125 for a P&S. It doesn't have to be too fancy, just something quality for the price.

It's a gift so I don't want to skimp out but then again anything over $150 would be too much for me to spend on this.

What I'd like...(not even sure about all this):

5x zoom
IS
Face detection
small form factor (slim)
durable
sd-memory if possible

What are your suggestions?

Thanks!

you will have to modify your constraint quite a bit. Either the budget, optical zoom, and SFF has to change. the canon A-series fit your bill, except not as thin as you may want. the SD-series will be slim enough, but doesn't have 5x zoom, the Sony T-20/200/300 can do all that, but is way out of your budget.

I would concur as it meets all requirements except SSF (which would be considerably more). Amazon has the 570 for like $135 and $160 for the newer 590.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think the one constraint I can throw out is the small form factor. Now that I think about it, that and the 5x zoom isn't really necessary, 3 should be enough. I'm gonna look into these.

I realize they won't have IS.

the A570 is $142 shipped from amazon. i think the only model below that in canon's line up is the A430 or so, and i don't exactly recommend it. the couple bucks spent moving up to the 570 is well worth it, imho.
