Long and short of it; Their dogfood is awesome.

We've been feeding our dog a mix of Newman's Own and a grocery store stuff (Purina, I think?).

He's a healthy pup, shiny coat wagging tail the whole kit'n kaboodle; it's not like he's having issues with his food but I've heard from several sources that the Costco brand dog food is really, really good with awesome ingredients and really, really cheap.

We were paying $20 for a 12-lb bag of the Newman's stuff and I go to Costco with a coworker and the Costco stuff costs . . . $26 for a 40 lb bag.

Mind you, this is for a 25-lb dog, so it's going to last a damn while, and I really really pray that he likes it! I go home, the moment of truth - how does our pup like it?

. . ..
. . ..
(One more moment of dramatic pause)

He loves it! We had a neighbor look after him today and even her dog - a more finicky eater - just jumps right into it too. Awesome!

I did not properly document this momentous occasion, surely a crippling flaw on my part but to appease the finicky ATOT gods I sacrifice onto them this pic of our dog:

Oh yes, he is that, to a T - we've adopted him from a rescue AND he's a gigantic pain in the ass!

Neither did we - we saw it at the grocery store one time and looked it up; we were feeding our dog Science Diet at the time which was alright, but from what we've read, it wasn't anything extraordinary, priced higher than anything else comparable ingredient-wise and was hard to find in our area; so in another words, it was time for a change.

We've heard positive things about the Newman's; we've decided to give it a shot and see how it went, and we've noticed that he doesn't act as hungry with Newman's as opposed to Science Diet on the same amount of food and he transitioned from it without a hitch.

Again, nothing against the Newman's brand, but it's ridiculous how good this Costco stuff is, especially for the price - not that this means much, but the coworker that went with me is really serious about her dog (takes her to shows and competes, helps train puppies etc.) and just bought a 30-lb bag of dog food that costs $60; when she saw the ingredient breakdown on the Costco brand and was suitably impressed - so much so that she's looking to change over to it once her stock runs out.

one way to tell how effecti the dog is absorbing the dog food is to compare his turds from the old dog food and the new dog food.

if the turds are the same color as the dog food (think purina dog food) and a good amount in volume then your dog is not absorbing as much of the food.

if the turds are more dark in color and smaller in volume then your dog is absorbing more of the dog food and not just shitting it out. you will see this with corn based dog food. think Purina dog chow.

i used to train rottweilers for schultzhund and we were completely anal about what food our working dogs ate.

That sounds like my Beagle, Biscuit. Except, I picked him up from a gas station when nobody knew where he was from and he didn't have a collar. When we took him to the vet, shortly after we found him, they didn't find an RFID chip.
I just hope that he was dumped there and nobody is missing him.

Also, I think that I will look into getting some of that Costco food. Biscuit isn't very particular about what he eats, and if it's healthy and cheap, what's not to like?

My gawd-damned spoiled little rat dogs won't eat the Costco dog food. I've brought home sample bags twice..."Nope...not gonna eat it...no fucking way. I'll eat your shoes before I eat that crap." <shrug>

^ lol changing dogs food can be annoying sometimes.

Our dog had a bladder stone so we dont want to change her food up, she has been fine on her current food.

I will definitely keep a lookout as to how his turd turns out!
