The beginning of the movie through the graduation ceremony where Bill Murray leads the other members of his rag-tag troop through a "That's the fact Jack" funky drill manuever is one of the all time greatest comedies.

The rest of the movie with the RV Urban Assault vehicle ending up in E. Germany is like the horrible sequel that should have never been made.

Just an observation after watching the movie last night.

Lawrence???

I don't like the name Lawrence! Only sonz70 and sailors are called
Lawrence! From now on you're Gomer Pyle!

"hey, i can't think of anymore stuff for the movie"

"crap, it isn't long enough yet"

"shoot, i guess we'll have to make up something like after they get out of boot camp"

"ok, let's have them go to europe and do some stuff"]

"yeah, that sounds cool"

except full metal jacket wasn't lame during the last half. yeah the last half of stripes did seem like a bad sequel.

many movies have this two part structure, some are just more subtle than others. A leftover from the "intermission" days.
