Trying to pick a new work laptop, not finding anything that has really what I'm looking for but these are close...
Flex 3: http://slickdeals.net/f/7801377-len...5200u-8gb-ddr3-14-1080p-led-549-free-shipping
Y40: http://slickdeals.net/f/7801871-len...r9-m275-629-with-free-shipping-back-again?v=1
Work's given me a $700 budget; my thought is to grab something up to $600 and spend the last 100 on a 250GB 850 Evo.
Specific goals:
-At least i5 Broadwell, prefer i7 - Y40 wins
-Max battery life - Flex3 wins
-Don't care about the M275X, will just leave it disabled and hopefully help battery life
-No DVD drive! (I tend to open them accidentally) - check
-No clickpad! - fail on both. Can't have everything I guess.
-1080p IPS screen - both have 1080p. Flex3 claims to be IPS but I can't find any good info on actual quality, color calibration, etc. Anyone have info on this?
-Upgradeable SATA/M2 bay for SSD. I'm sure the Y40 is fine; can anyone confirm the Flex3 is too?
So assuming the Flex3 has an upgradeable drive, the IPS screen works as an IPS should, and battery's decent (can't find numbers on this either), all it really lacks is an i7. How much difference does that actually make for a web dev/productivity workload? I live in Excel, Notepad++, a bunch of browsers and utilities, and some light-moderate Photoshop/Illustrator on the side. Nothing heavy, but I frequently have 40+ tabs open across several browsers and I'm picky about my page rendering times. lol
