why would the thieves be filling up at a gas station when they just stole a bunch of gas?

I though you were going to talk about gas siphonig, my father is so phobic about anyones car being siphoned, he even bugs my grandmother about getting a locking gas cap, yet he has never had his gas siphoned.

Unless the light is on, the thieves will be able to get out of town/city no matter how little gas is in the thing.

I always run it to almost empty for other reasons anyway. :)

burn out my fuel pump on the off chance someone tries to steal my POS?

That's exactly what will happen if you follow the misguided advice of DangleDingle. Unfortunately, most people do not understand that the high pressure fuel pumps in the gas tanks these days actually create a lot of heat as they run. The gas acts as a coolant for the fuel pump. Running below a half-full tank chronically will cause premature failure of the fuel pump from lack of cooling.

Strange and wrong, incorrect advice from MrDingleDangle. As usual, lots of "experts" on the net but little real factualinformation.......just hearsay without any real thought.

He was just trying to tell a story. You're probably right, but still. It's not like he came here and started claiming to be an expert.

I run with mostly empty gas most of the time so I don't have to drive anywhere. When gas is 1.60 a gallon, you have to buy premium, and u only get 14 miles per gallon, you dont' really want to be driving very much. Everytime I fill my tank up its as though its empty within a week because I drive. If I don' have gas it seems like less than 1/8th of a tank lasts forever becuase I try not to drive

Why do you have to buy premium?

Dang! I've been running my 626 almost out of gas for 319,000 miles now. I had hoped to get 500,000 out of that fuel pump:frown:
:) :p
