I think I have some movie using the xVID codec. So I install it, now it plays EXTREMELY choppy and without sound.

Something else I need to do?
xVID

You dont have to. I have xvid and ffdshow, but i'm not sure which codec is being used when i play a xvid. Just go ahead and install ffdshow and check the setting to make sure its the one doing the work.

oh btw, i dont know about xvid, but the cock suckers who made divx dont know how to make a proper uninstall. I had to delete the folder and remove anything divx from the registry cause the uninstall failed.

Uninstall it if you can, it should be under Add/Remove Programs (not sure why yours isn't). Then download this. Probably no different, but its the build I use and I know it works. Also, try dloading an AC3 filter, not sure if that will do anything but I think you need it on some things (not sure if it is this or something else, so maybe someone will come in and correct me hear in a sec).
