I using my pc to record tv shows, as I am low on hard space, I use mpeg-4 a lot.
I can encode 384X288 @25 fps in real-time on my Pentium 4 1.8/ 845 / 256 MB running win2000.
I could go as far as 480X360 with a AMD 1700+ /KM400/256 MB/ win 2000.
Acorrding to the test posted here, I see that the better cpus don't add lots of hourse power at the divx tests.

So is it possible to encode realtime a 768X576 @25 fps with a home pc?

Thanks,
Niv

Both of those machines are relatively low-end. I'm not sure why you think you didn't add a lot of horsepower, going from 110592px/frame to 172800px/frame (56% increase). 768x576 is about 2.5x the pixels per frame of 172800, so I'd suspect with a high-end Athlon64 and fast RAM, you could pull it off. Anyway, I'd suggest asking in another forum, since this isn't particularly technical.
