XVCD and standalone DVD players (Panasonic RP91)

I downloaded the demo XVCD (NTSC) from vcdhelp.com and burned it. Plays fine on my XP box, but won't work with my Panasonic RP91, which supposedly works with XVCD, according to vcdhelp.com. Standard VCDs work fine. SVCDs aren't supposed to work at all, except with some funky modifications.

What bit rates or settings for XVCD for this player (and others)? I'd like to make a compilation CD-R XVCD of some good scenes from my DVDs (esp. trailers). However, I don't want to use normal VCD, since it is suck.
