Xtreme-G 71.84 Drivers

I've been hearing alot about these Xtreme-G modified drivers, and since I've never tried them, I figured, well, I'd like to see what others think, and maybe give 'em a shot. First off, if you haven't tried them, or don't even know what they are, don't waste my time. Not that I am trying to sound like an a$$hole, but I want to know the opinions of people who are ACTUALLY using THIS build of the drivers. If you are using another build, that's great, but I am ONLY interested in the 71.84 version. I plan to download these things tomorrow, while at work (great high-speed connection there 😉 ), but I'd like to know what others think about them before I find out for myself. Either way, I will try them, but, as I said, I'd like to know others opinions as well.

I already looked at the feature set, and they do sound fairly impressive, but things, other than support for shtuff, what do the drivers bring to the table that are ACTUALLY important. OK, so, here's what I want to know:

1.) What "features" are in the XG drivers that aren't in the standard ForceWare drivers?
2.) What is enabled by default in the XG drivers that are not present or disabled by default in the standard ForceWare drivers?
3.) Are these (XG drivers) any faster than the vanilla ForceWare drivers? If so, how much?

Your help would be greatly appreciated. And remember, if you aren't using THIS build of the XG drivers, or aren't using them at all, don't bother replying, as your input isn't worth much to me.

I find them to offer roughly the same performance (give or take 2 or 3 frames) but image quality is noticably better.

Texture sharpness, especially with Aniso enabled, is much better than vanilla forcewares.

The 71.84 XG's have went above and beyond what I expected from XG. I previously used their 71.20's and was ecstatic... then they came out with these and I was blown away. The IQ and performance increases are very nice to have.

I never noticed a bit of difference from these drivers. If you have a configuration similar to mine, it's probably not worth it. Other computers might stand to gain...

these drivers work very well in my case with a BFG 6800GT. No issues with any of the current games that I play. I highly reccomend them

No issues, temp is a known issue in 71.50+ dirvers, is only a report issue (that I don't have), IQ is uperb, performance is very good, It has built in coolbits.... the best drivers for GF6 for sure

no issues here, fantastic IQ and performance. i have the 71.84 ones that came out before the official 71.84's...is there an extreme G based on the now official 71.84's?

they do have that temp bug, but i run overclocked anyway so it doesnt matter. for me theres no reason to have the official drivers

I wanted people's opinions. If you don't have anything to say, then just don't post. Besides, what "we" were you talking about anyway? It seems that people were glad to post their opinions, but obviously not you.

Dood, Gamingphreek, I did, but it didn't really answer the questions that I had about the drivers. That's why I created a new thread 😉 .

For my Dual 6600GT SLi.....The performance doesn't seems to be a lot better (2-3FPS), but the color and screen quality is totally difference, the color get richer and the pixel quality also improcee... the temperature on the other hand does went up 5C-8C in my case on both cards. I am still trying out the driver as I just install is last night but so far I think I like it.

Once again the temperature is not an issue that they can fix nor is it an issue with the Xtreme G drivers. It is an issue with the forceware drivers themselves. Your temp does not go up 20C it is a bad reading. I have heard that OCing a mhz fixes this problem.

I've always envied people who can succeed without trying. 🙂

they cause tearing because your fps is high and you have no vsync set.

I did'nt notice it in earlier drivers, but they appeared to have AF issues when aproaching hillsides usually. Does'nt seem to be a problem now, I just notice some tearing.
But you are right, I don't have vsync on, and my FPS are about a million 🙂

OK, so here's a new question. I have seen that there are votes for the "F*CKED up" answer on the poll, so, what happened to make you vote that way? Are you just dicking around, or did something critical happen. Share your story.

There will always be people dicking around ive never really heard a story that the drivers messed up the system. Its usualy the users fault if something happends.

Well, I didn't vote here since I'm not using the 71.84 set, but I am using the 76.10 set and I just felt like commenting. I'm just not really impressed at all.

IQ looks the same to me as the 71.80 forcewares I was using earlier. In addition to that, my performance in Doom 3 and 3dmark05 (best game ever) went down just a smidget. My marks went from 4170 to 4110. My Doom 3 timedemo at 10x7 4x/8x AA/AF went from 63.5 to 62.1fps, and my 16x12 score stayed exactly the same at 29.1fps

I'm running an unlocked eVGA 6800NU at 350/850, btw.
I'll probably try the 71.84 build, and see if there is any difference. There's a chance that their 76.10 release isn't up to par.

Also, there was something I was thinking about. A while back, someone mentioned that it seemed like if you had your display quality slider on default quality, but disabled all the optimizations, you would have the exact same IQ 99.9% of the time, but a noticeable performance boost over the high quality setting. If this were the case, I'm wondering if the XtremeG drivers are merely the standard set of forcewares left at quality setting, but with the optimizations turned off, and then with control panel options for users to tweak with thrown in. That would explain why the IQ looks better to a lot of you, but as for the performance bit...I have no idea.

i found that they were better in comparison to 66.93 but with the released 71.84's, i did not notice a real difference. one thing i did notice with the XG drivers was that in farcry, at certain parts inside i got a frozen screen, not that the game froze up but that the screen froze when looking at a certain part of the map and was fixed when i looked away from this part. both 66.93 and regular 71.84's did not do this. that was all i noticed and decided to stick with the regular 71.84's. but by no means are the XG drivers bad.
