Xtransferring a Hard Drives to a new machine

Hi,

I have an old PIII with Win XP service pack 2. The thing is that I want to upgrade to a Dual Core Pentium. I'd rather by a bare bones machine because it makes no sense to pay for Win XP again. Can anyone suggest how to put my old HD into a new machine without me having to buy a another HD?
 
Assuming you would care, be aware that the OEM WinXP license expires when you replace the motherboard. That's Microsoft's viewpoint and more or less supported by the EULA. So that would be a reason to get a new WinXP license.

Another idea is to try the 180-day free trial of WinXP x64 Edition, which you can download as an .ISO from Microsoft, and then hold out for Windows Vista late this year (optomistically), if you're going to shell out money for an OS.

Bigger picture: if you have a system old enough to have a Pentium3 in it, it would probably be wise to replace the hard drive anyway. They don't last forever...
 
Search XP help for "Transfer Wizard." It's supposed to transfer your settings to a new machine.

I always recommend using matched pairs of drives and Ghosting regularly. If you have a good Ghost copy of your drive, the transfer can't screw things up anymore than you can unscrew it. 🙂
