XTi vs. D40x, 20D vs. D80

I'm gonna get a DSLR after the xmas season, and I've narrowed it down to those 4 (after reading reviews and what people recommend, it seems those are the best options for the money).

I'm just wondering if it is worth the extra couple hundred dollars to go from an xti/d40x to a 20D/D80? They're all 10MP, so is the only difference the features each has? This is my first DSLR so I'm not sure it's worth the extra money to get features I may not need to use. I would rather spend that money on a good lens.

I'm guessing the XTi/D40x are similar in features and quality, the only difference being the way they feel in your hand.

Also, any sites you recommend for used camera bodies, if i was to upgrade to a 20D/D80?

Thanks.

yes, the extra money is worth it if you have it, IMO. the added features and build quality come in pretty handy. though why not a Canon 30D or 40D? and rumor has it that Nikon might be releasing a D80s/D90 soon enough, which I will be anxiously awaiting.

The D40x has no internal lens motor, so you have to spend more on lens.

If you are Nikon fans, go with D80.

Or go with Sony A700 or A900

20D was replaced by 30D over a year ago. Now the 30D is replaced by the 40D. Are you talking used gear?

If I was considering the 30D/40D, I would just get the nikon D80 because it's cheaper.

is the XTi better than the D40x?

and the sony a700 is like $1200, which is hundreds more than the D80, so I'm not even gonna consider that.

id go with canon all the way. The build and feel of the nikon line is better than that of the XTI and below from canon. However, you really cant go wrong with 20D and up from Canon.

You can't really go wrong with any of these cameras 😉

If you can't take decent pics with a D40, you won't be able to take decent pics with D3.

Try them out, work out how much you want to spend, and buy the camera that feels best and is closest to your budget...

the 30d is a kick ass camera I would recommend it over a bunch of other cameras in its line...
20d is similar to the 30d

People don't buy based on just price though otherwise we would all be driving the cheapest cars, wearing the cheapest watches & shoes etc.
Some people need features that others don't & what suits 1 person handling wise doesn't another.
The D80 is cheaper than the 40D because it's due for replacement & it's no longer at the forefront of technology albeit it's still a good camera & capable of great photos.
