Xtasy Everything card with white bar when recording - Macrovision

I got an XTasy Everything 64mb card and when i go to record dvd's or some vhs tapes it get a white bar across the screen. This card has a tvturner card built into it by the way.

Anyways, I contacted visiontek and they told me its because my card does not support macrovision.

Is there something i could dl or do to make it so i dont have to buy another card because i really like this card and dont want to get rid of it?

Actually, they are wrong, you see that because it DOES support macrovision. Capturing DVD's is somewhat sensless with a computer, you'll have MUCH higher quality by ripping/encoding than you ever possibly could by capping/encoding. Recording commercial macrovision protected VHS tapes will be a problem unless you get some kind of macrovision hack however.

When you try to ripping/encoding a dvd, I just want certain parts of the dvd.

How hard of a process is this?

And could you tell me a brief understanding on how to do it or what programs i need
to do it.
