XS Forums Linkage.

SOS V3.0 is a *nix Operating system designed with Gamers in mind. Thanks to the abundant assistance from Microsoft, XSOS V3.0 features DX10 support and is compatible with many games.

However we make absolutely no promises about compatiblity of applications or of Games.

1) XSOS does not in any way shape or form contain or support Digital Rights Management Software, Trusted Platform Module, or any such technologies that limits the rights or ablities of the User.

2) We take absolutely No responsablity for any actions or damages that may or may not take place because of your use or abuse of said operating system.

3) XSOS is freeware and is to be freely shared and used. However it shall not and will not be sold for profit or for personal benefit.

4) XSOS is a non-profit organization.

5) XSOS is not a windows Hack nor is it any more windows based than any other *nix operating system.

6) Links to betas and release will be only issued on the release of said beta or RC version of the operating system.

XSOS was developed as an attempt to create an Operating system that supported the games that we play, making it light and without any infringement of User rights. Which seems to be so readily traded away by many compnaies these days. This operating system contains no Spyware, Virus programs, or malicious media. We keep absolutely no records of who downloads what, nor to we use any tracking media. However we do keep count on the number of downloads. We in no way intend to keep tabs on how or what our operating system is used for. We automatically assume (per our Microsoft agreement) that you own atleast one valid Microsoft operating system.

Weird stuff.

Nothing anybody says describes anything about it or what it is. One link is just one guy saying that they need beta testers and beta testers need a valid Microsoft license?

Nothing makes sense and I have no desire to guess what that password is.

I would have agreed, but if you read through that thread & the other threads on it in the OS section @ XS, i really don't think it's vaporware.

The guy has already released modified versions of other OSes previously (v1 & v2), & as farfetched as it does sound, i tend to believe it's for real.

As for the password, i didn't realize the site was asking for one.

With Firefox, the popup blocker actually seems to block the password dialog, so you can get into the site.
IE doesn't work though.
 
Those of you who desire to believe it is warez or other crap, fine I can't make you believe anything.
Those of you who actually care to learn, it is a L4 microkernel with a Win32 API emulated with DX10 support built into the kernel. Because its emulation layers it mainly uses windows drivers. I'm not here to recruit people, gain support, raise money, take over the world, or etc. I am just trying to share a creation of mine, which I hope does a little good.
call me good or evil, it does not matter. What matters is that I am actually trying to help people out, not trying to tear them down.

That's why it's vaporware.

Microkernel development isn't something you can just pull out of your ass and if you think your going to get within 5% the performance of any machine with a conventional kernel your completely delusional.

The worlds best academic researches have been looking to do just that with a Microkernel for the past 20 odd years and they haven't even gotten close to pulling it off.

Nobody has yet been able to produce a usefull multipurpose OS based on a Microkernel. The closest that I know of that anybody gotten is QNX and that is only used for embedded systems, or HURD from the GNU project that was able to produce a bootable OS after constant development since the late 1980's, which they scrapped in favor of a L4-based varient which since then they seemed to have completely given up on it. Microsoft actually produce NT originally with a microkernel design, but scraped that.

I know that Apple claims that they have a microkernel, but they are full of crap. Now people call it a hybrid microkernel design, which is only somewhat-to-mostly crap instead of 100% crap.


That and somebody asked about the 'API' and the reply was (paraphrasing) 'Oh we are thinking D for easy programming'. D is a obscure programming language that I've seen in a couple small video games.

Also that same guy was asked about it's use on a flash drive and he said basicly (paraphrasing) 'Oh, you can't use it on a flash drive due to it's using VIRTUAL MEMORY'. Computer science genius this person isn't.

The previous versions seemed to be like BartPE or Windows 98 lite, were you strip down a existing Windows OS and such. I looked through various forums and one fella who got his hands on a XSOS V2.0 said it contained all Windows 2000 system files.

The password dialog is popping up just fine.
The problem is that there is a password. I have no clue what that password or the username is and I don't want to play guessing games.
 
LOL this looks like a one person team, and they've 'made a deal with Microsoft' to integrate DX10? LOL

More than likely he's taking Windows and stripped and skinned it... or he's taking a Preinstalled Environment version of Windows and working with that. Claiming that he's successfully used a *nix kernal and integrated Windows API WITH Microsoft help is just hilarious.
