xps m170 is upgrading possible?

You won't be able to upgrade to the Core Duo Processor. The mobo of the M170 is a 478-pin 553 MHz FSB. Pins are also different, even if they are both 478-pin mobile processors. Best you get get is a 2.26 GHz Pentium M "Dothan".

Research, research, research. Scow the net and Goolge re you laptop and viable upgrades. Afterall there has to be someone out there who has done an upgrade you are wanting to do and posted their story on the internet. Also be aware that in the end, it might end up costing more money then it's worth.
