Hi, my xps 720 was recently packing 2 gtx 460s running sli until the main card just crapped itself barely a year old. I am considering upgrading to a single card and have my sights on a gtx 580 from gigabyte.

I noticed it requires a single 8 pin connector but my xps 720 has 4 6 pin connectors and i noticed that gigabyte doesnt supply 6 pin to 8 pin converters. Was wondering if just getting a normal converter like this would suffice?

Hope u guys can help recommend what card i should get otherwise that might better suit my rig. Do not want to have to change my power supply. Getting my pc ready for diablo 3.

The converter will do the job but remember 6 pin can draw max 75watts while the 8 pin is able to draw 150 watts. For a card like 580 it is a bit risky.Op what about 670?

They dont sell those here yet in Australia I think. Also the GTX 580 is on sale at a really good price.

In regards to the 75 watts from a 6 pin. WOuldnt 2 6 pin connectors connected to a single 8 pin supply the needed 150 watts?

GTX 580 (needs one 6, one 8 ). Two six pins won't do it.

7950 > 580 (7950 takes 2 six pin connects)

But if BF3 is your primary game the 580 is best for you.

A six+ two lead from ur power supply will work, if thats what ur asking. The adapter will work also....

If you don't overclock your video card much the 580 is a very good card. The 7950 overclocks easy as hell though (if u go 7950 look for MSI, Sapphire or Asus brands). Two fan design if possible rather then one.
