I know it just released today, so I can't find any details on the SSD version. I'm hoping it's the Samsung SM951 NVMe version...I wish.

Edit: i hope the mobo supports NVMe for the PCIe m.2 slot, and not AHCI.

I talked to a Dell chat representative yesterday, and asked this very question. I was told that the SSD speed is:

"The approximated speed of the Pcie ssd is 770 MB per sec"

I asked if the motherboard supports 2 or 4 lanes of M.2 pcie, and he was not able to confirm either.

I'm waiting for the new Precision 17" 17 7000 before I make any decisions about the XPS 15. I may replace my desktop and laptop with the new mobile workstation.

I also talked to a dell chat rep. He didn't give me PCIe SSD speeds, said it was a dell-branded SSD. Manufactured by WD or Samsung. I didn't know WD was in the PCIe SSD game.. interesting to hear.

If the latest Macbook Retina Pro 15 has a PCIe SSD (no NVMe support at that) that has 2 GB/s and 1.5 GB/s read/write speeds, I hope Dell's can come close... wishful thinking probably.

I asked a dell rep about it but didn't get a proper answer. If I buy the cheaper option, with the 128GB "SATA SSD", will I be able to upgrade that with a pic-e ssd myself? Does anyone have a guess?

I am planning to buy this laptop. If you get the spindle HDD option, you will have a free m.2 PCIe slot.

It supports both K + M nvme pcie ssd drives. The first model here in US has a regular hard drive plus a 32gb ssd. I believe the OS is installed on that 32gb part.

You can remove it then replace it with a 128gb for the OS and still use the 1tb spinner HD for data.

The second model that is $1399 has a 256gb pcie ssd. In this model you also have a 2.5 inch bay open for a regular hard drive.

The only models that don't have the 2.5 bay are the ones with the 512 and 1tb ssd because those have the 84w battery which takes over that 2.5 inch bay.

People are getting shipping times of close to December 29th on Reddit. These are some who ordered in mid October. I was going to place my order but now I may need to consider another laptop.

That's what they are saying on Reddit. I'm about to place my order tonite but I'm really unsure if its going to be delayed. The site says ships within 8-11 days but those who have ordered earlier this month still have not had it shipped.
